The Story of Blumen Gardens

When a local business has been around as long as Blumen Gardens, it’s normal to want to learn the story behind the company. Expect to fall in love with this story. Joel and Joan Barczak both attended school at Kishwaukee College in 1981. Joel approached Joan for a ride home, and they quickly bonded over their mutual love of horticulture.

They married in 1988 and bought a house across from what is now the gardens. They started their own garden business in their backyard and it took off, so they rented some land to expand. Then, they purchased part of what is now Blumen Gardens. Over time, they bought the entire property and spent 20 years renovating it, turning it into the beautiful space it is today. Their children are heavily involved in running Blumen Gardens, giving the entire business a family feel that customers love.
